Martinique November 2022 The photography series “Killing Me Softly” portrays the wavering and invisible line between love and violence in relationships. As an outsider, it is difficult to recognize a victim of domestic abuse. There are doubts, questions, statements like “No, I’m must be imagining things.” As in most cases, in social gatherings, the abuser and the victim seem to be a model couple, admired and adored by their friends and family. To see the violence, one must look towards the hauntingly blurry part of the photography series where the aggressor is inflicting violence on the victim. Her screams are of pain and despair. She is trying to cover her already bruised up face. She is protecting her rib cage from yet another fracture. She is being yelled at and psychologically diminished. He is “Killing Her Softly” … I have never been a victim of domestic abuse and therefore can not speak on their behalf. That is why, I chose to create a series from an outsider’s point of view.
